About me
Hi there! I’m Chloe.
Although I have always had a love for the avian world, it wasn’t until I was 9 that I found a love for chickens. As a family, we have always kept a few laying hens, and at one point we were running 200-odd birds between our egg flock and a multitude of heritage breeding flocks, so I have had a lot of experience with poultry. My first purebred birds were a pair of mottled Pekin hens that I got for my 10th birthday.
I started showing chickens at the age of 12 and have won numerous prizes, notably best Junior exhibit, time and time again, and several best of variety. I am hoping to become one of NZ’s youngest poultry show judges; I will hopefully be doing a bit of probationary judging in 2027.
I am currently breeding exhibition brassy back pekins, and am developing my own breed of laying chickens which I call the New Zealand Forager Fowl. I also have a strain of specially bred meat chickens which are descendants of multiple breeds and would be considered a landrace that I am working on in hopes of releasing some breeding stock to the public soon.
I have been studying genetics since I was 11, and have since then developed a strong interest in all things poultry, from genetics, breeding, and nutrition, to history, standards, and exhibition.
